Designers Using Social Media - Diane von Furstenberg

Being a fan of Diane von Furstenberg I really love the fact that she uses social media. The designer started a blog - Inside DVF where she lets us look behind the scenes - from show preparations to interviews and stories from her life as a designer. During the New York Fashion Week, Inside DVF features "Show DIary" showing us the backstage and the work of the models, crew involved in the production of the show.

Diane von Furstenberg has also a Facebook fan page where fans find out about new pieces, specials and promotions. The designer also features a Fan of the Week. This week I was the lucky one to be chosen! The photo is from the Designers for Cancer event, which I attended last week. More info on this summer dress

Lucid Look Book

I’ve heard remarks from girls, who told me that sometimes in the morning they’re just too much in a rush to think about accessories. What accessories go with the outfit was a dilemma I used to have before I started designing jewelry. I kept that in mind designing. I made sure most pieces I was making were versatile - the ones you don’t have to think if they go with the outfit, the ones you can just put on because you like them and wear to work as well as to a date at night. One of these pieces is the tiny circle infinity necklace. Achelle was wearing it to work a couple of days ago.

Achelle Dunaway, Marketing Director at e.l.f. cosmetics is wearing the sterling silver Tiny CIrcle Infinity Necklace.

Ashton Kutcher vs CNN Twitter Battle @aplusk vs @cnnbrk

Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk on twitter) challenged CNN (@cnnbrk on twitter) to a contest over who is going to reach 1 mln followers on Twitter first.

Yes, it came down to this - a man is competing the whole network.

In a close battle, Ashton reached 1 mln followers before CNN becoming the most popular person on Twitter. He was streaming live on the internet while CNN was reporting live.

"We changed the way we broadcast and edit. We can all do it, do it together" - Ashton Kutcher.

Congrats Ashton Kutcher!

PS I don’t follow @cnnbrk. I don’t follow networks, I follow people. That’s, in my opinion, the idea behind Twitter.

The 99 Percent Conference

After a full day at The 99 Percent conference today, an event attended by creative people from industries ranging from product designers to graphic designers, developers and think tank creators I can easily tell I am overwhelmed. Overwhelmed in a great way - by information, ideas and creativity. The conference was organized by Behance and www.Coolhunting.com. I could write so much about what the speakers ranging from a controversial photographer Jill Greenberg to Threadless founder Jake Nickell, and a marketing, guru, author Seth Godin, etc had to say during their presentations.

However summing up my experience and what things I got out of the conference are:

- the leaders are about finishing, not starting. There are a lot of ideas, it’s not about being creative and having ideas, it’s about execution. Josh Rubin, the founder and editor in chief of Cool Hunting started the conference with his saying: " I believe there are no new ideas, just great executions."

- there’s a range of opinions, the challenge is to find the extremes and accept the middle.

- reduce everything you want to do to an action you can start right now.

Scott Belsky, founder of Behance talked about the art of being organized when creative. One of the points he made was about devoting a part of your day on not working on things, which are due immediately. Try to spend a part of your day on looking into future projects and doing research to discover new opportunities.

Paper Magazine Beautiful People Party

Tonight’s party was so much fun! It was my first time attending the annual Paper Magazine Beautiful People Party. Hiro, the place where the party was at, was filled with positive vibes, smiles, happiness. After the party I started thinking why that event was so much fun and so special. Dj Cassidy playing? Oh yes, definitely, I love his style. Katy Perry’s live performance was of course a huge highlight but then I realized that it’s the people who made it.

Everyone in the room received an invite to the Beautiful People Party, everyone got a teeshirt "I’m a beautiful person." So everyone showed up full of confidence. And that’s what made the party so much fun and beautiful.

2 am NYC

My friend was visiting from LA a couple of days ago. We had drinks at the Spotted Pig in the West Village. Coming back home at 2 am and saw this toddler just hanging out outside a pizza place.
