Today I went to the Gansevort Park hotel to preview the jewelry collection of some exhibitors, who will be showing at the JCK trade show in Las Vegas in June. I enjoyed some of the jewelry collections a lot. Especially the ones that were very original and beautiful at the same time. One of the designers who caught my eye was India Hicks. Check out her initial letter necklaces – so innovative.

Check out the Initial Letter Necklaces by Lucid New York. They have been really great sellers for a while now. People just love their size, the fact that you’re not walking around with a big M on your neck. Or an A, or J. You know what I mean…

So when you walk into a Kate Spade store – I went there to get my Florence pink bag, which I adore already – you feel overwhelmed and charmed by the tennis theme the designer chose for this season. Tennis is fun and cool and the bright lime green color that we all associate with tennis is so in this season. All the brights actually. Kate Spade went even farther and created a line of tennis jewelry.

Check out the Lucid New York tennis charm necklace as well. It comes in sterling silver as well. Now is it a cool thing to wear even if you don’t play tennis? Or is tennis a cool thing to get into this season? I love playing, that’s for sure. It’s also all about finding a perfect match in the partner, who will motivate you to go. You have to keep it exciting and fun.

New Ad Banner

So here is the winning Lucid New York ad design. Running the contest for the designers for this ad taught me a lot. It was so hard to communicate. I didn’t want to micromanage them but I wanted to communicate my vision. Overall I think it turned out great.

The most important thing is next time when I’ll be doing a larger project, I’ll know how to communicate with the designers better.

99 Designs – Awesome Resource for Jewelry Designers

I’m a brand new user or www.99designs.com. I discovered the site thanks to Tim Ferris, who used the site to post a contest for his new book cover.

Here’s how the site works: you post a contest for a design job – need a business card designed, a site, a book cover or like in my case an ad banner for your business? All you need to do is post an ad aka a contest and depending on the price you’re willing to pay that’s how many designers will submit their entries. You rate them everyday, make comments about the corrections, etc. You can even create a poll with the designs and ask your friends to help you.

Rating and choices do take a lot of time. My recommendation would be to try and spend time to draft a very specific draft of what is it that you have in mind. The contest lasts a week and in my case I opted to pay $145 for it.

Here are my favorite designers so far competing to win the Lucid New York jewelry ad banner contest.

You see what I mean that it can be a lot of work? They all seem beautiful!

Hello from Beautiful Barbados

Hallo from beautiful Barbados. I’ve been here for over a week and of course I chose the side of the island with the breaking waves. I love it so much! Barbados is a beautiful island, very diverse with great beaches. Check out one of my videos, which I shot today just going for a walk to the Silver Sands beach to watch the kite surfers.

I’m so excited to share that I was able to work with a few jewelry designers here and create a special bracelet with vegetable ivory. It’s beautiful, handmade and environmently friendly. Limited quantities of the bracelet will be available soon via the site. I may even throw in an extra surprise or so from Barbados.
