Zac Posen Spring 2013 Jewelry – David Webb Jewelry Collection
Gorgeous David Webb jewelry collection presented at the Zac Posen runway show at the New York Fashion Week last Sunday.
I’m so happy I was able to take these shots – taking closeups and getting them in focus can be difficult especially with limited lighting. I wasn’t able to catch Coco Rocha ending the show in the white gown. And she did end the show splendidly – running back after her runway walk, her fans screaming. She looked like a happy bride. Lovely, lovely.
Enjoy this amazing jewelry collection.

Vera Wang Fall 2011
Grace, romance and effortless style were on Vera Wang‘s mind when she was creating her Fall 2011 collection. Short leather and suede jackets with fur trims, gorgeous nude dresses toughened up with leather gloves and shoes. The show was full of well chosen contrasts. The set was full of mysteries – starting with the music by Javier Peral to large metal doors where the models were coming out of. It’s as if they were coming out from an ancient jail, or maybe a huge castle. I almost didn’t want to go backstage to preserve the mystery. I wanted to keep my jail/castle image fresh.

Jill Stuart Fall 2011, Fanny Packs on Runways, Runway Jewelry and Accessories

Jill Stuart Fall 2011 collection was very diverse – colorful with bright. Only after the show while looking at the photos did I notice that many outfits had actually hidden stories – animals, sunsets, trees, all this hidden in between the perfect fall hues.

Interesting leather and suede juxtaposition

One of my favorite dresses from the show, I love how perfectly it looks on the model.

I found it hard to believe when I read the article by Rachel Dodes at the www.wsj.com With Fanny Packs on the Runway, Can Mom Jeans Be Far Behind? that we will actually see fanny packs on runways for Fall 2011. And here they were at the Jill Stuart show… Approve, disapprove?

New York Fashion Week Jewelry

I have been waiting to check out this Tadashi Shoji Kara Ross jewelry collaboration. I’ve been waiting to see if the pieces will be complementing, adding to or overpowering the outfits. Sadly, in my opinion, the collaboration didn’t quite work as a collaboration. It seemed to me that both Tadashi Shoji and Kara Ross created their collections separately and it was as if they met the morning of the show to dress the models together.
The fall 2011 Tadashi Shoji collection was airy, textural but delicate. The Kara Ross jewelry was heavy and metallic. In many cases the texture of the dresses was just too busy to add a necklace. Because of most cuts of the dresses, I had the impression the necklaces were not in harmony with the collection. It’s as if the outfits were "asking for" earrings – gorgeous, delicate, intricate, waterfall like earrings, which would sparkle to the rhythm of the walk of the models.
I loved Tadashi Shoji Fall 2011, I liked the Kara Ross necklaces as well. I just would not pair the two designers together.

This is my favorite dress from the show. I love the romantic color and the randomness of the flowers. Beautiful texture. Thankfully no necklace was added to this dress…

*** Correction: due to the last minute change, the jewelry for the Tadashi Shoji runway show was provided by Dannijo, and not by Kara Ross. I’m sorry for this mistake.
Fashion Internships – the Way to Know your Fashion Dreams
For some, the New York Fashion Week may be a reminder about how much you would love to be involved in the fashion business. Sometimes it’s even hard to specify what your fashion dream is. Would you like to be a magazine writer, editor? Cover fashion on TV? How about being involved in the fashion shows production? If all this sounds wonderful to you and you don’t have a specific goal in mind, the easiest way to find yourself and your dreams in the fashion world is to apply for fashion internships. Being involved in the temporary position could make you discover what it is that you would want to work towards. Having a specific goal in mind helps attaining it.
First, let’s look into where to find an internship.
I’d recommend starting with sites such as internships.com, fashionjobs.com or just craigslist.com. After every trade show I get emails from students asking if we need an intern. So leafing through the trade show catalogs including the info of all the exhibitors can be a good idea.
Now how do you select an internship?
I’m sure most of you reading this, who would like to find an internship are going to answer they the ideal solution would be landing it at Vogue. Every year hundreds of thousands want to work at Vogue. Does this super woman, her assistants, and the assistants of assistants need that much help?
.jpg)
I bet the Vogue office could not even fit a fraction of those applying. I’m not writing it to discourage you from applying for an internship at Vogue. By all means, go ahead. However, you probably should not just limit yourself and wait for the answer from Vogue. Try to broaden your options, apply to different companies, consider applying for different positions. You may be surprised to find out that positions you have always thought of as your dream jobs are not really that interesting and you may find your fashion dream job is not at all what you thought it was going to be before starting your summer internship.
Even though most fashion internships are unpaid, getting one can still be a challenge. Yuli Ziv, editor of an online magazine MyItThings and co-founder of a blogger network Style Coalition offers some fashion interview tips. The tip that got my attention is "don’t be a fashionista, be an expert." Be familiar with the key players – brands, designers in the industry. "The love for shopping and putting together outfits isn’t enough to make it in this industry" says Ziv.
Also make sure you are very familiar with the company you’re applying to – know the topics they cover, things that are important to them. And lastly, make sure you’re memorable – whether it is by showing your presence all over social media networks, your blog (highly recommended) or by preparing a custom made application. Sending an unusual handwritten thank you note is always a good idea. One of the most memorable thank you notes I have heard of was the one written by a friend of mine, who applied for a position at the New Yorker. After her interview, she managed to find a postcard with the New Yorker office building on. And she did get a job.
NYFW Schedule Day One

The New York Fashion Week began yesterday with the Heart Truth collection show but today is the official day one, the first day packed with shows and presentations taking place in so many locations that there is no way one could see and digest them all. I’m seeing and shooting these three shows today. I’m particularly looking forward to checking out the Kara Ross jewelry collaboration with Tadashi Shoji.
I’m also dying to see the new collection by Christian Siriano – former Project Runway winner.
Fall collections are my favorite to check out – everything is just more luxurious and rich. They’re definitely more challenging to create – making heavy fabrics appear airy and effortless. How much sequins are we still going to see? How long? I’ll let you see it all through my eyes with a particular emphasis on details and accessories.

Badgley Mischka Jewelry – Badgley Mischka Spring Summer 2011
Every season I always look forward to see the new collection of Badgley Mischka jewelry. After the stunning fall collection of intricate bib necklaces, this season the designers take a fresh look at jewelry. Coins and disks were present throughout with the addition of chains, crystals, leaves and fabrics. Head-pins in locks of the girls, an occasional head scarf, sheer gloves were all nice additions to the Badgley Mischka dresses.

Badgley Mischka Dresses – Spring 2011 – Different Look at Flowers
This morning I was fortunate to witness the brand new Badgley Mischka Spring 2011 collection. I noticed sculptures of flowers, sheer gorgeousness with some sparkles. The spring colors were nudes, multiple shades of greys and whites. The gowns were adorned with sparkly clutches, woven bags and coin rich jewelry pieces. Once again when I opened the program I was beyond surprised – Badgley Mischka designed all the shoes, jewelry, handbags and of course gorgeous clothes. Bravo once again to the power couple!

Check out the shoes. I’m so glad these are not the platform stilettos. I just don’t get platform stilettos…
